Sagadahoc County commissioners authorized the county administrator to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Maine Judicial Branch on April 15 that clarifies use of space on the courthouse third floor.
The MOU — described during the meeting as the "newest version" from the Maine Judicial Branch — outlines shared use of the jury lounge, pretrial room and a 50% construction cost contribution for a new jury bathroom. Commissioners reviewed the document after a brief explanation from staff that the branch’s attorney had made only minor edits (for example, references to Sagadahoc County 911).
When the administrator asked whether the chair could sign, one commissioner replied, "Yes. You could sign that," and the board then moved, seconded and voted in favor of executing the agreement. The commissioners also delegated signing of three copies so each party would have an executed original.
Ending: The county will finalize signatures and make the MOU available as a public record. Commissioners said the MOU adjustments allow space-planning work to proceed with the county’s space-needs committee.
