Las Vegas Fire plan-review workload down about 35%; some tract‑home reviews returned in‑house

David Cross, Fire Plans Review Section Manager for Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, told the Enterprise Fund Board that plan reviews and inspections are down roughly 35% compared with the prior period and that the fire section is maintaining industry goals for turnaround as it can.
Cross reported the department is meeting a 14‑day review target about 79% of the time. He said the city recently brought tract‑home fire plan reviews back in‑house after previously outsourcing them; since the change the section has completed roughly 233 such reviews but has seen its 14‑day turnaround rate dip from about 98% (when outsourced) to nearer 70% while staff work to return to prior performance levels. Cross said he had not received widespread developer complaints about the slowdown.
Cross also said Las Vegas’s fire‑code amendments are on the same adoption schedule as the building department’s code package and that the fire office has made about 15 local amendments related to fire access and residential roadway widths.
Board members had no substantive questions at the time; Cross concluded his update and the board moved to future agenda items.
