Broadwater County declares vehicles and equipment surplus, authorizes public auction

The Broadwater County Commission voted to declare multiple county vehicles and pieces of equipment surplus and authorized their disposal at public auction during its April 16 meeting.

The action covers six pieces of equipment described as county vehicles and road/solid-waste equipment shown in an exhibit to the resolution. Public Works Director TJ Gravely told commissioners the list includes an “old service truck,” a 1989 Kenworth hook truck, a 1995 Kenworth tractor truck and an 1988 Peterbilt that will be sold for salvage. Gravely also said other units — a Chevy snowplow and a GMC half-ton pickup — are addressed in a subsequent agenda item and one unit has been offered to the Broadwater County Airport.

The resolution notes that vehicles and equipment valued at $2,500 or less are authorized to be sold by consignment at public auction and items valued more than $2,500 will be sold at public auction as allowed by Montana Code (cited in the record as Montana code 7-8-22-17 and 7-8-22-18). The resolution also says notice of sale will be given according to Montana Code annotated 7-1-2121 as read into the record.

Commissioners moved and seconded the resolution and the motion passed by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting transcript. After the vote, Gravely said he would bring registration paperwork to the clerk for a signature.

Gravely and commissioners discussed one vehicle that may transfer to the Broadwater County Airport depending on the airport board’s action at its meeting later the same day. A separate resolution of intent to transfer property to the airport was discussed on the agenda as a formality should the airport accept the equipment.

The commission’s action declares the listed items surplus and authorizes public auction sale in accordance with the Montana statutes cited in the meeting record.
