Council elects Joe Stevenson as deputy mayor

The Oshkosh common council elected Council member Joe Stevenson as deputy mayor during the April 15 reorganizational meeting.
Council president Chris Larson opened nominations for deputy mayor and, after a nomination from former deputy mayor Bielo, Joe Stevenson was nominated. The council followed its nomination process, closed nominations by motion and then conducted the election by roll call. The election was carried by a 7-0 vote for Joe Stevenson.
After the vote, Council member Joe Stevenson thanked the nominator and said he looked forward to serving in the role. The council announced the carried result and congratulated Stevenson.
The deputy mayor position is an internal council leadership role used for presiding or representing the council when the mayor is unavailable; the council did not change the role’s statutory responsibilities during this meeting.
