Ray (Parks Department staff) said the city delivered notices to about 60 homes around the park; 14 households responded: 10 preferred adding pickleball courts, three preferred keeping tennis courts only, and one was indifferent. Under the planned reconstruction, the existing two tennis courts would be reduced to one tennis court and two pickleball courts on the freed space.
Bruce Abraham, president of the Oshkosh Pickleball Club, urged the board to approve the design, saying the community’s demand exceeds available outdoor courts and praising the city's recent conversions at other neighborhood parks. Abraham suggested several sound‑mitigation options the city could pursue.
Board members said they expect demand to continue rising and expressed general support for replacing one tennis court with two pickleball courts at 40 Fourth Parallel. Staff said no formal action was requested that evening; the item will proceed through design and the capital improvement plan process, and staff will continue neighborhood outreach and consider sound mitigation options during design.
