Oshkosh council certifies April 1 election results; newly elected officials sworn in

The Oshkosh common council on April 15 approved the Board of Canvas filing of the official statement of votes cast in the April 1, 2025 election and then the city clerk administered the oath of office to the newly elected officials listed in that statement.

The vote on the consent agenda item — the Board of Canvas filing of the official statement of votes cast for the April 1, 2025 election — carried unanimously. The council’s consent action declared Matt Muhgrawer, Brad Spambauer, Joe Stevenson and Carl Bulow as elected, and the city clerk then administered the oath required of those taking municipal office. During the oath, the city clerk read the statutory oath asking whether the person “swear or affirm that you will support the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Wisconsin and the ordinances of the city of Oshkosh, and will faithfully discharge the duties of the said office to the best of your ability?” to which the assembled officials answered “Yes” or “I do.”

The formal approval on the consent agenda was recorded as “Carried 7.” The council proceeded immediately to the swearing-in for the officers named on the official statement; the city clerk conducted the administering of the oath on the council dais.

The council’s organizational actions and the oath completed the formal transition to the newly seated council following the April 1 election. The sworn-in officials will assume their duties as defined by city ordinance and state law.

A related procedural vote to adjourn the outgoing council “sine die” preceded the new-council roll call and swearing-in.
