Council discusses green-waste hours, bike lanes and spring events at April 1 meeting

At the April 1 meeting, councilmembers and staff discussed several operational and community-service items, including public-works drop-off hours, a planned completion of bike lanes on 300, citywide bulky-waste pickup and upcoming community events.

Councilmember Mike Schultz raised the possibility of adding bike lanes on 300 and noted potential grant opportunities through Get Healthy Utah. A staff representative replied that the city has budgeted to complete the bike lanes on 300 in the current budget cycle.

Staff and council also discussed the public-works green-waste drop-off at the public-works facility. Jeff (staff member) said the facility will be open on weekends through April, with Saturday hours currently 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Councilmembers asked staff to explore additional evening hours (for example, open until 6 or 7 p.m.) one or two weekdays monthly to accommodate residents who cannot visit during daytime hours. Staff said they would check with Jake (public works) to see if extended hours could be arranged.

City staff described the citywide bulky-waste pickup schedule and advised residents to set materials out early in the identified week to avoid missed collections if crews pass through an area earlier in the week. The meeting record quoted staff saying the pickup will occur in the week the meeting referred to as “the week of the 20 first”; staff encouraged residents to set materials out Sunday night to ensure collection.

Councilmembers also reviewed spring community events at Romer Park, including an Easter egg hunt scheduled for April 19 and ongoing youth baseball weekends through Terrace Days. The council said the park has seen strong participation during the opening baseball weekends.

No formal action to change facility hours or to adopt new service schedules was recorded; staff said they would follow up with operational adjustments if staffing allowed.
