Washington Terrace wins CDBG awards for Victory Park playground and Romer sidewalk projects

At the April 1 meeting, Councilmember Amy announced Washington Terrace received two award letters under the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
Amy (Councilmember) said the Victory Park playground improvement was approved for $123,542, and a sidewalk and safety project at the north end of Romer Park received $116,008. Amy said the city’s local match will be roughly 38.5% of each project, which the city estimated would come to around $73,000 for the Victory Park project and roughly $72,000 for the Romer sidewalk project.
Amy said the projects will move forward through the CDBG process, which will include required public hearings; the council scheduled follow-up public hearings for the next meeting. City staff thanked planning and public works staff for preparing the applications.
City officials noted federal award letters are subject to contracting and bid processes; Amy said the contract paperwork should arrive in July, and staff will proceed with the projects and required local match when contracting and bid results permit.
No formal council action to accept the grants was recorded in the April 1 minutes; the item was presented as an award notification and a lead-in to upcoming public hearings and contracting steps.
