Council approves $116,700 design contract for downtown pickleball courts

Hurricane City Council voted to award a design and engineering contract to Sunrise Engineering for design of downtown pickleball courts at a price of $116,700.
Darren, the city staff presenter, said Sunrise Engineering has staff with strong pickleball experience who will oversee the design. "This contract is for a hundred and $16,700 to design the pickleball courts," Darren said during the council meeting.
Council members discussed a preliminary construction cost estimate included in the contract packet and noted it appeared higher than some contractor ballpark figures gathered informally. Darren said the city will obtain bids for construction and that final construction costs may be lower than the preliminary figure. The council also discussed scheduling a half-hour coordination meeting so experienced local players and court-design experts can brief the design team on preferred spacing and materials.
Councilman Faucett moved to award the design contract to Sunrise Engineering; Councilman Preet seconded the motion. The council voted in favor; the vote was recorded as unanimous.
