Elaine Baldwin told the council that Garfield County is organizing events for the national America250 (250th anniversary) observance and asked Bryce Canyon City to appoint one representative to the county planning committee.
Baldwin outlined several county requests and opportunities: a quilt contest (the county is already promoting it to allow time for quilt-making), an 18-by-24-inch pole-banner program using the America250 logo, and a county offer of up to $1,500 per community to help cover banner costs. She said the state’s banner program requires signing a logo-use agreement with stipulations for any municipality that uses the official America250 artwork.
Baldwin said most county events would begin in late 2025 and carry through 2026, and she asked council members to consider whether the city would install side-mounted pole banners (the county’s preferred format for safety along state highways). Baldwin also asked the council to consider sponsoring or co-sponsoring at least one large, countywide event and encouraged school participation for heritage projects; she described a plan to compile short family histories into a county book.
Council members discussed logistics and banner format; one member noted the city has more than 50 light poles suitable for side banners and that the city used a similar banner program for its centennial. Baldwin said the county would be in contact to provide logo files, grant paperwork and committee details.
