Santa Maria signs MOU for pilot express transit route to San Luis Obispo

The Santa Maria City Council voted on Sept. 16 to approve a memorandum of understanding with the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments and the City of San Luis Obispo to pilot an express transit route between the two cities.
A city staff member described the MOU as memorializing an arrangement to operate a new express route linking Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo, aimed at serving commuters who travel between the communities for work, education and entertainment. Staff said the route will pull up adjacent to San Luis Obispo’s transit center next to city hall at 919 Palm Street.
Council members asked clarifying questions about the route and the pickup location in San Luis Obispo. Staff said the MOU is intended to alleviate congestion and provide an alternative for commuters who travel between the two counties.
The item was on the consent calendar and was approved as part of the consent vote.
