The Lakeville City Council read and adopted an Arbor Day proclamation April 7 declaring Saturday, April 26, 2025, as Arbor Day in the city and noting Lakeville’s 30th year of recognition as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
The city forester described accomplishments that contributed to a Tree City USA growth award, including switching to a shared tree-inventory system across departments and hosting an AmeriCorps member to support forestry and job development. The city’s annual tree sale sold about 200 trees (13 species) and sold out within two weeks. The Arbor Day Tree Sale pickup event will be held April 26 concurrent with the Earth Day celebration, and a volunteer planting event at Chadwick Park is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7 with about 30 trees planned for installation.
Staff said the forestry division plans to inject roughly 815 ash trees for emerald ash borer treatment this summer, expects to remove around 55 park trees under a DNR EAB grant and replace them with about 110 trees, and completed a private ash-survey identifying 604 properties with infested ash where more than half of identified trees have been removed or treated. Staff highlighted public engagement tools including an Arbor Day web page and two self-guided tree treks in parks.
Council member Joshua Lee read the proclamation on behalf of the council.
