The Lakeville City Council held a public hearing April 7 and approved a resolution certifying unpaid special charges for inclusion on property records or to be collected from responsible owners.
Finance Director Mary Stahl presented the spring certification list and explained the charges are used to reduce city losses from unpaid bills and abatement costs. The list includes 45 delinquent final utility bills totaling $9,057; four nuisance abatements totaling $1,056; seven false-alarm charges totaling $967; and one tree-removal charge of $1,550. The total amount presented for assessment certification is $12,630.
Owners have 30 days from the hearing to pay without interest but remain responsible for a $50 administrative fee. If unpaid they can be certified to Dakota County for collection on property taxes per city policy; staff handles notices and collection steps.
Council member Dan Walter moved to adopt the resolution; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members voting aye.
