RSU 14 committees update: Title I exhibits, concussion guidance, cell-phone survey and middle-school curriculum alignment

Board members and committee chairs reported on several ongoing policy and curriculum efforts at the April 16 meeting.
A finance/facilities committee member said staff and the director of curriculum have been working on Title I policy exhibits; Christine Hessler returned to the committee to provide a deep dive on exhibit content and will return with a finalized version. The committee meeting notes indicated the board does not vote on exhibits and that exhibits contain internal procedures and parent-involvement details.
Committee members described ongoing work on JJIF concussion management guidance with the district nursing team, the head trainer, athletic director and administration; the group reviewed U.S. Department of Education guidance samples and Maine School Management Association materials and said more work remains.
The committee announced they will review survey data on a proposed cell-phone policy (JFCK) at an upcoming meeting. Members invited the public to attend a committee session that will include that feedback.
The curriculum committee said it heard presentations from all elementary schools and both middle schools about using data to qualify students for interventions, the interventions used and related outcomes. The committee reported that aligned curriculum mapping for the two middle schools is underway, with grades 6–8 mapped and fifth grade to be added later; staff will revisit administrators’ spring data and action-plan results at a final meeting later in the school year.
Board members also highlighted student capstone projects and community engagement in the district during the roundtable remarks.
