Surry County assessor presents reassessment results; residents voice concerns over higher home assessments

Wingate Appraisal Services told the Surry County Board of Supervisors on April 3 that it has completed the county’s reassessment and certified new values for the 2025 tax year.
The consultant said Surry County has about 6,500 parcels and that approximately 4,600 of them required adjustments in the current cycle. Wingate reported receiving 111 appeals from property owners during the appeals process; staff revised 62 of those appeals (about 56 percent of appeals received). Overall taxable assessed value rose to approximately $1.415 billion following the assessor's hearings, a roughly 12 percent change from the 2024 total, the presenter said.
