Board authorizes applications for federal funds to help close shortfall on natural gas expansion project

Accomack County’s board on April 16 authorized the county administrator to apply for federal community project funds (congressionally directed spending) to help cover an estimated $900,000 shortfall on a proposed natural gas expansion project.
County Administrator Mike Mason told the board Delegate Bloxham secured $6.5 million in the state budget toward the initiative, and that the current state budget process (in Richmond) still must be finalized. Mason said applications would be submitted through both House and Senate congressional channels and that, if Accomack County is selected to receive the funding, the county would serve as fiscal agent and follow the Virginia Public Procurement Act for procurement activities.
The board voted to authorize Mason to proceed with the applications.
Ending: Staff will prepare applications to congressional offices and report back to the board when submissions are made; selection and funding are contingent on federal appropriations and congressional approval.
