Public Works convenes closed sessions on tower leases and potential property purchase; no action taken

The Sawyer County Public Works Committee voted to convene two closed sessions under Wisconsin law to discuss lease and bargaining strategy for county tower properties and to deliberate a possible purchase of property for county facility expansion.

The first closed session concerned existing lease agreement terms and possible extension or renegotiation for tower properties at 1025 N North Tower Road, Hayward, and 10424 W State Road 2770, Radisson, and the second concerned a potential purchase of property the county might use for future facility expansion. The committee held roll calls to enter the closed sessions; all supervisors present voted in favor to convene.

After the closed sessions the committee returned to open session and no formal action was taken on either matter, the chair said.

Legal basis: the meeting materials and chair referenced closed sessions pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(e), the provision that allows deliberation and negotiation of purchase of public property and related bargaining strategy in closed session where open discussion would harm the county’s bargaining position.

Staff did not identify any votes or contractual approvals during open session; the committee moved on to routine committee business after the closed sessions.
