Public-safety committee approves new operator license, denies another; delinquent wholesaler debt case referred

The West Allis public-safety committee reviewed and decided several licensing matters on April 15.
Asia Boista appeared before the committee seeking a new operator (bartender) license. Committee members discussed past record issues, including a prior driving-related citation and a subsequent untruthful statement about leaving the hearing location; the committee noted Boista now holds a valid driver’s license. After questioning, a member moved approval, and the committee voted to grant the operator license. Committee members emphasized the importance of honesty and the licensee’s cooperation with police in the workplace.
The committee also considered a new operator application for Scott Stubley. Stubley did not appear; members cited a background check and three OWI convictions and moved to deny his application. The motion to deny carried.
Separately, the committee considered a notification under Wisconsin statutes related to indebtedness to a wholesaler (citations read at the meeting as Wisconsin Statute 125.337(b) and 125.694(b) in committee materials). The committee voted to send a notice of intention not to renew a retail alcohol license to MDL Express LLC (doing business as Express Pantry, 8530 West Greenfield Avenue) because of outstanding indebtedness to a wholesaler. Staff said a letter would be sent outlining that the license is not eligible for renewal until the indebtedness is paid. The committee also approved changes to renewal applications for other license holders noted in the packet.
