Madison proclaims April 21–25, 2025, Arbor Week; city forester accepts proclamation

The Madison Common Council on April 15 unanimously approved a resolution proclaiming April 21–25, 2025, as Arbor Week.
Alder Tishler read the proclamation noting the city has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA community for the past 35 years and citing the benefits of trees for temperature moderation, stormwater management and neighborhood health. The proclamation urged residents to celebrate and plant trees for the well-being of present and future residents.
Ian Brown, the city forester, accepted the proclamation and thanked the council. “Why celebrate Arbor Day when we can celebrate Arbor Week? Right? So Madison is a absolutely unique community,” Brown said, and added the city’s focus is on supporting young trees so they become larger canopy trees.
Council members moved and seconded the proclamation (item 10); with no discussion the council recorded a unanimous vote in favor. The resolution is recorded as Legistar 87695.
