The Madison Common Council on April 15 approved an amendment to the 2025 Planning Division budget to accept an additional $3,500 in grant revenue from the Wisconsin Arts Board and approved the Madison Arts Commission’s recommended 2025–26 arts grants awards.
Planning Director Tuttle explained the increase and told the council the city’s original 2025 budget included $11,500 from the Wisconsin Arts Board and that the new award raises the total to $15,000. “The $3,500 increase that we are requesting to amend our operating budget by reflects an additional $3,500 that the Wisconsin Arts Board has awarded the city in grant revenue,” Director Tuttle said.
Alder Harrington McKinney asked for an overview of the increase. Alder Figueroa Cole asked whether there is any threshold for council approval of appropriation increases; finance staff replied that any increase to an appropriation that does not involve a transfer requires council approval, regardless of dollar amount.
Council members moved and seconded the item; it was identified on the agenda as a 15-vote item. After no further discussion, council recorded a unanimous vote in favor and the item passed.
