Board OKs $55,000 increase to warehouse support contract to fund grounds preventive work

The Chandler Unified governing board approved April 9 a $55,000 increase to an existing warehouse stock support services contract, raising the contract cap from $450,000 to $505,000 for the remainder of the fiscal year. District staff said the amendment funds increased preventive maintenance and specifically a rise in purchases of pre‑emergent herbicide as grounds crews caught up on deferred work after vacancies were filled.
Support services director Tom Dunn and procurement staff explained that the original June estimate for the contract was based on prior year spending. Staffing shortfalls in the prior year reduced execution; with the hiring of certified applicators and more preventive work this year, the district requested the additional amount and said the expenditure is contained in existing site/maintenance budgets and does not require reserve transfers. The district noted that pre‑emergent applications are intended to reduce labor‑intensive post‑emergent weed control.
A motion to approve the contract increase passed unanimously.
