Huntington City Council voted to table action on the Highway 31 project after city officials said the contractor is charging for work the city disputes.
Mayor Mary Norton said the council may need to delay approval because "they did more work than they bridled, and they want to charge us more for that bid work. We gotta discuss with the contractor about it because we're disputing it a little bit." Councilmember Gloria Wilson moved to table the item; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Judd Beagley and approved by voice vote.
Council members recorded that the project had previously been approved in concept but remained under negotiation over final costs. The council did not direct a specific course other than to continue to negotiate with the contractor and return the item to a future agenda when the issues are resolved.
