North Logan City Library Board reviews construction progress, fundraising plans and program updates

The North Logan City Library Board met April 10 and received an update from Library Director Trent Maitman on the new building, the librarys budget status, fundraising plans and upcoming programs.
Maitman told the board that the library is about three-quarters of the way through the fiscal year and that most budget lines are tracking as expected. "At this point in the year, we're 75% through the year," he said, noting that the only revenue line lagging is the nonresident fee and that some maintenance lines have been higher because of repeated furnace repairs.
The board heard a construction progress report: framing is complete, the roof is on, and workers have begun installing sheetrock in the atrium. Staff are planning interior details such as cable and power locations for televisions and deciding whether to use in-house design help or hire a commercial interior designer. Funding for stacks, furniture and other interior items remains unresolved; board members discussed fundraising options led by the Friends of the Library, including concessions at community events and a donor wall with tiered giving symbols (leaves and bird motifs).
On fundraising, board members described a plan to publish a brochure and a Google form linked to the Friends Venmo account so donors can designate gifts for the donor wall. The board discussed safeguards for naming (to avoid inappropriate inscriptions) and agreed the campaign will accept donations by Venmo, cash or check; an end date for the campaign has not been set. Maitman said the Friends account still has funds available for interior spending and estimated there may be roughly $5,000to6,000 remaining to allocate for programs or interior needs.
Programming and volunteer updates were also discussed. The board reviewed upcoming events, including a Star Wars program that will be split into two sessions capped at 75 attendees each to manage capacity after previous years drew several hundred people. The Cache Astronomical Society is scheduled to set up equipment for an outdoor program in late May. Staff reported 12 recurring volunteers who help weekly, four service missionaries donating approximately 12 hours per week and other community volunteers assisting with reshelving and program support.
Maitman and the board discussed resources for multilingual patrons and outreach to immigrant and refugee organizations. Board members said they plan to contact local refugee and immigrant service organizations to identify programming needs. The group discussed repurchasing access to Mango Languages (cited as roughly $1,500 per year) or using state- or consortium-held Gale databases that offer multi-language interfaces.
Administrative items: the board voted unanimously to approve the March minutes and later moved and approved a motion to adjourn. No other formal ordinances, contracts or budget adoptions were voted on at the meeting.
The board scheduled follow-up work on the donor-wall campaign, interior furnishing options, a staff survey (to support the directors evaluation timeline), and outreach meetings with local immigrant and refugee organizations to develop targeted programming.
