City planning office previews master plan updates and several ordinances for council review

Mount Pleasant planning staff said they expect to present roughly five ordinances for council review, and discussed designating roads in the city’s master plan and setting a tentative community-impact-development (CID) hearing date to finalize the plan.
Staff said a recent zoning meeting produced a large set of items and that the master-plan work will show drainage constraints and where roads will be required before development can proceed. Planning staff suggested a tentative date in October for a CID hearing to allow sufficient time to finalize the master plan. The planning update also referenced ordinance-violation enforcement work the city attorney will pursue and a forthcoming packet of statistics the staff circulated to council members.
The discussion matters because the master plan and related ordinances affect where development may proceed inside city limits and identify infrastructure requirements developers must meet before permits are issued. Staff said they will bring the ordinances to the council for review in upcoming meetings and will continue coordinating with the city attorney on enforcement and code issues.
No formal votes were taken on ordinances during the work session; staff said they will return with ordinance drafts and the planned tentative CID schedule for council consideration.
