Committee renews city mowing contract for code-enforcement property maintenance

The Waukesha City Finance Committee on April 8 approved a three-year renewal with the city's existing mowing contractor to support code-enforcement mowing on private properties that exceed the city's height limit.
City staff explained the contract covers mowing on private properties when owners fail to comply with an order to cut grass that exceeds the code (staff said the city enforces when grass exceeds roughly eight inches). The contractor has worked with the city for three years, agreed to respond to properties within two days of notification and removed a previous fee charged when a property owner mowed between notice and contractor arrival.
Jennifer (city staff) said the contractor provides proof of insurance and holds the city harmless; when asked what happens if the contractor damages property—running over a hose, for example—staff said there has been no such incident and that claims would be handled through the contractor’s insurance.
Alderman Wilson moved to approve the three-year contract; Alderman Lemke seconded. The committee voted unanimously in favor.
City staff said the city solicited local mowing companies and received competitive pricing; the renewed contract keeps current pricing and adds the contractor’s willingness to meet the city’s short timeline for responses.
