Committee clears technical sunset and cleanup bill, SB 181, unanimously

Among the changes the sponsor outlined: removal of the obsolete board of licensing health care facilities because its duties were consolidated with the Health Facilities Commission; updating sunset dates for the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact and the Tennessee Child Fatality Prevention Team; removing the old Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities name after consolidation with the Commission on Aging and Disability; eliminating a retirement incentive reference for the now-defunct Public Service Commission; and removing references to a joint committee on veteran services that the General Assembly no longer maintains.
The sponsor said section 8 removes an expanded reporting requirement around antibiotic-resistant infections enacted in 2011. Committee members asked no substantive questions and there was no public opposition on the record.
The clerk read a roll-call showing nine ayes; the chair announced the bill "move[s] with a positive recommendation to calendar." SB 181 will next appear on the Senate calendar for further consideration by the full body.
