The Marysville City Council opened its meeting with a standing tribute to police Officer Osman Redarte.
Mayor Chris Branscomb asked the room to stand "in loving memory of police officer, Osman Redarte," and several council members and staff offered remarks about the officer's impact on the community.
Branscomb and other council members described a procession that transported the officer's remains from Marysville to Plaster County and noted widespread public turnout along the route. Branscomb recounted scenes along D Street and at the bridge, saying there were "people on each side of the street" and that moments during the procession "were fitting to the occasion, the sad occasion, the tragic occasion." He also recounted a stopped train whose crew saluted, which Branscomb said was among the notable moments.
Several council members expressed condolences and thanked first responders and community members for their support. The tributes were delivered during the council comments portion of the meeting and did not result in formal council action.
