Land Use Committee OKs ordinance expanding self-storage criteria in PDR-2 zone

The Land Use and Transportation Committee of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 on April 7, 2025, to forward an ordinance amending the planning code to expand criteria for certain self-storage uses in the PDR-2 zoning district and to extend the sunset date for those uses.

The ordinance, described by the clerk as an amendment to the planning code to “expand criteria for certain self storage units, uses in the PDR 2 zoning district and extending the sunset date for such uses,” was continued from a prior meeting for substantive amendments and returned without a new staff presentation. Chair Supervisor Mirna Melgar moved to send the ordinance to the full Board with a positive recommendation; Vice Chair Supervisor Cheyenne Chen and Supervisor Bilal Mahmood voted aye. The clerk recorded three ayes and the motion passed out of committee.

The committee did not take public comment on the item and no additional findings or conditions were stated on the record at this hearing. The clerk announced that items on the committee agenda were expected to appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda of April 15, 2025.

The ordinance text as read to the committee included references to consistency findings with the general plan and planning code policies; the clerk read those findings as part of the item title. No city departments or members of the public offered further amendments or stated legal authorities beyond the planning code references during the committee vote.

Looking ahead, the committee recommendation sends the ordinance to the full Board for consideration at its next scheduled meeting.
