Mayor nominates Josh Chandler as board alternate, recommends reappointment of Bruce Breiner; council to vote later

Mayor Monica Zoltanski recommended two Board of Adjustment appointments during the Sandy City Council meeting on April 1: the nomination of Josh Chandler as an alternate member and the reappointment of Bruce Breiner as a regular member. The council held a brief interview with Chandler but did not vote on either appointment.

Zoltanski introduced Chandler, noting his role as the West Jordan city attorney and prior service in Sandy’s attorney’s office. The mayor said Chandler had helped with translations of correspondence related to Sandy’s sister-city agreement with Bucha, Ukraine, and that Chandler’s legal experience made him a candidate for service on the board.

Chandler told the council he appreciated the opportunity and that he enjoyed working with Sandy City on the sister-city program. Several council members thanked him for his willingness to serve and praised his qualifications. Councilmember Cindy Sharkey said Chandler’s qualifications were “ideal” for the Board of Adjustment and predicted he would be “an excellent addition.” Another council member echoed that view; no objections were raised.

Mayor Zoltanski also recommended reappointing Bruce Breiner to a regular seat on the Board of Adjustment and said Breiner has decades of experience in financial and risk management. The mayor said Breiner was not present for an interview; council members discussed whether a reappointment typically includes an interview and noted that reappointments are often processed without an in-person interview.

The council did not take a confirmation vote that night. The mayor and staff said they would schedule the formal advice-and-consent vote at a later meeting; Chandler’s nomination was introduced along with the materials the council had received for consideration.
