City staff asks commissioners to avoid moving microphones; parking enforcement to start May 1

Deontre Hayes, introduced as the City of Tulsa’s new chief resilience officer, attended the meeting and thanked commissioners for their work. A city staff member explained that audiovisual technicians balance microphone inputs for live broadcast and recordings and asked commissioners not to move, swap or pick up mics during meetings because doing so disrupts sound levels.
Staff also said the city will begin reminding commissioners with City Hall badges to use the attached parking garage rather than the visitor lot, starting May 1. The staff member explained that badge access already permits garage parking and said some commissioners had been using the visitor lot in addition to badge access, which results in duplicate parking charges to the city; staff said commissioners who continue to use the visitor lot may be asked to pay for that visitor parking.
Commissioners also discussed limiting guest-speaker time to 15 minutes and scheduling only one guest speaker per meeting so community members have sufficient time for public comment.
What happens next: the security team will begin enforcement and staff will circulate guidance on meeting mic etiquette and guest-speaker limits.
