San Marcos proclaims April 2025 Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month

The proclamation stated that more than 34,994 cases of child abuse and neglect were confirmed in Texas in 2024 and that 9,754 children were in foster care statewide. Locally, the proclamation listed participating organizations that provide services, including the Hays County Child Protective Board, Hays County District Attorney’s Office, Hays Caldwell Women's Center, Roxanne's House, the Greater San Marcos Youth Council, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the San Marcos, Kyle and Buda Police Departments, the Hays County Sheriff's Office, Bluebirds Hope, and others.
Danielle Feldman, grants manager at CASA of Central Texas, said 160 children in Hays County were confirmed victims of abuse and neglect in 2024 and that CASA was able to serve 92 percent of those children, while noting the goal is to serve 100 percent.
"Thank you to the city of San Marcos for helping raise awareness for this cause and for your support. Every child has a chance," Danielle Feldman said. The proclamation emphasized community responsibility and thanked volunteers and staff who work on prevention and advocacy.
No legislative measures or funding changes were recorded during the proclamation presentation; the item recognized ongoing services and partnerships addressing child abuse prevention.
