Mayor appoints seven members to new Lafayette Downtown Development Authority; council confirms

Mayor Mongut on March 4 nominated seven members to the newly formed Lafayette Downtown Development Authority (DDA); the City Council confirmed the appointments by unanimous vote.
The DDA board will have seven voting members: one council member (Tim Barnes) and six other members drawn from property owners, residents and business owners in the DDA district as required by state statute. The mayor’s appointees and their initial staggered terms are: - Faith Rogers — term expiring 06/30/2025 (owner/operator in Old Town; former LURA member) - Janae Layko — term expiring 06/30/2025 (co-owner of Public Wine) - Ian Mundy — term expiring 06/30/2026 (property representative for Lafayette Lumberyards) - Tom Hardy — term expiring 06/30/2026 (owner of Confluence co-working space) - Ty Hubbard — term expiring 06/30/2027 (owner of E. Simpson Coffee) - Joanna Kagan — term expiring 06/30/2027 (executive director, WOW Museum) - Tim Barnes — council liaison and member of governing body (no fixed term; serves at pleasure of council)
City staff said the recruitment process received 11 applicants and that interviews were conducted on Feb. 10. The mayor and one councilmember participated in interviews. The DDA will replace the former Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority (LURA) and has authority under state statute to plan and finance public improvements and support economic development within the district’s boundaries. The new board’s first meeting is scheduled for April 14.
