Lafayette proclaims March 2025 'March for Meals' to honor Coal Creek Meals on Wheels

The Lafayette City Council on March 4 proclaimed March 2025 as the 23rd annual March for Meals month to recognize Coal Creek Meals on Wheels and the volunteers who deliver meals and daily social contact to residents.
Mayor and council unanimously approved the proclamation after Councillor Gavings read text noting that Coal Creek Meals on Wheels has served Lafayette, Erie, Louisville and Superior for more than 50 years and will surpass one million meals served in 2025. The proclamation urged community support through volunteering and donations and called attention to the program’s role in reducing food insecurity and social isolation.
Luna Collins, community engagement manager for Coal Creek Meals on Wheels, told the council the program delivered more than 70,000 meals in 2024, and that about 57% of last year’s deliveries went to Lafayette residents through home delivery, a library “grab and go” program and the Coal Creek Café at Josephine Commons. “We have no age or income requirements for any of our programs,” Collins said, and invited residents to use the café or sign up for home-delivery services.
The proclamation passed unanimously. Council members thanked Coal Creek Meals on Wheels for sustained service during the COVID-19 pandemic and for continuing to serve residents across the region.
