The curriculum committee had reviewed film and novel recommendations and public comment at the committee meeting; the board unanimously approved the curriculum items that remained on the agenda.
Board Policy 101 (mission statement, vision statement and shared values) was presented as a first reading. Dr. Kempler and other staff explained the policy language stems from a district comprehensive planning process completed in 2022 and reaffirmed in the 2025 comprehensive plan; the policy aligns board language to the approved comprehensive plan. The first reading passed on a voice vote.
Board members emphasized that any film rated above PG shown in class requires parental permission and that novel approvals for courses will be handled at semester starts as needed. The curriculum committee will meet again on April 24 after the regular board meeting to continue review.
