Governor Stitt announces appointment of Travis Jett to Oklahoma Supreme Court

Governor Stitt announced at the State Capitol that he is appointing Travis Jett of Woodward to the Oklahoma Supreme Court, saying Jett will “stay true to the Oklahoma and the United States Constitution” and “uphold the rule of law.”

The announcement followed a vetting process and interviews with three candidates, the governor said. Stitt described Jett as a “man of integrity” respected in both the legal and agricultural communities and noted Jett’s long involvement in the FFA, including serving as national president of the organization. “He’s a man of integrity and wisdom,” Stitt said. “He was not only the state president, but was the national president of the FFA, which is something like 250,000 members.”

Travis Jett, who said he grew up on a ranch near Slapout in the Oklahoma Panhandle, thanked the governor and described his guiding principles. “The lessons that I learned a 90 miles northwest of here, things like honesty, integrity, humility, fairness, that's how I'll guide my tenure on our state supreme court,” Jett said. He said he would apply the law “in a fair, predictable, and just manner” and accepted the appointment with humility.

Stitt said he considered nominees “very carefully” and that his first priority is appointing individuals who will adhere to the constitutions of Oklahoma and the United States. He also noted the personal sacrifice involved in leaving private practice to serve on the court.

A start date for Jett’s service on the court, whether any confirmation or additional steps are required, and the vacancy he is filling were not specified during the announcement.
