BCPS staff recommended on March 25 that the Board of Education approve Puzzle Pieces Learning Academy as a new public charter school, with two conditions tied to funding and financial oversight.
Doctor Elmendorf, presenting the findings of the review team, said the application passed a technical review and underwent a qualitative evaluation based on Appendix D of BCPS Rule 1600. The proposed school plans to open with 201 students in pre-K4 through grade 3, adding one grade per year to reach 316 students when fully enrolled. Elmendorf said the charter would be expected to fund any pre-K seats that are not otherwise supported by state or federal pre-K funding.
