At its April 7 meeting, the board approved the consent agenda including the appointment of an assistant principal, several school travel requests, and purchases for school nutrition and bus safety. The board approved each item by voice vote.
The Davidson County Board of Education approved its consent agenda on April 7, approving personnel appointments, out-of-state student travel, and equipment purchases included in the packet.
Highlights approved on a voice vote included:
- Appointment of Shay Pennicks as assistant principal at Stoner Thomas School on a two-year contract. District staff said Pennicks currently serves as a case compliance manager and instructional coach at the school and has special education experience.
- Student travel approvals: Ledford High School—s HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) delegation to the national conference in Nashville (June); South Davidson High School cheerleading camp at Wake Forest University (July 11—13); South Davidson volleyball camp at Campbell University (July 17—19). District staff and coaches told the board about chaperones, dorm security and transportation plans.
- Purchase and installation of a walk-in cooler at Fair Grove Elementary from United Restaurant Equipment Company for $39,673.46, to be funded with school nutrition funds. Staff said United's bid included a new floor and a larger cooler.
- Installation of video surveillance systems on 47 activity buses from Fortress Mobile, funded through the Safe Schools grant; district staff said all yellow school buses already have cameras and this purchase extends surveillance to activity buses.
Board members moved and seconded each item in turn and approved the requests by voice vote. For multiple items that depend on conference organizers (hotel assignments and final passenger lists), staff said they will return any final details to the board in May if available.
The consent agenda also included routine items not discussed separately during the meeting. Board members asked for clarifications on chaperone counts, hotel assignment timing for national conferences, campus security at summer camps, and the implementation timeline for the cooler and camera installations.
