Dr. Becker said the district faced “about $425,000,000 of asks for this year's budget,” and emphasized the need to match plans to likely revenues. “We need to build a budget that comes in with the revenue that we receive,” Dr. Becker said, adding that a revenue-neutral budget would be critical because the board does not expect support from the county commission for broad new revenue measures.
The presentation outlined five budget focus areas: supporting students (including behavior and mental health efforts), closing achievement gaps through coaching, new-teacher recruitment and retention, additional support for school leaders, and targeted capital investments.
