Daggett County commissioners approved a Search and Rescue surplus request on April 11, allowing older military surplus gear to be offered first to department members before disposal.
Search and Rescue commander Jesse explained the items are largely old military surplus of uncertain acquisition date; some items had already been discarded because of pests. The department proposed to keep two shelter halves for equipment storage on the response unit and to offer the remaining usable items to search-and-rescue members as personal gear, rather than storing them and risking deterioration.
The commission moved, seconded and approved the recommendation. The motion authorized offering the listed items to members initially; unsalvageable items may be disposed of thereafter. No dollar values were associated with the surplus list during the discussion.
The county did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript; the chair announced the motion carried with an 'Aye.'
