The Blount County Beer Board approved a temporary 30-day beer permit for the Rock the Country Music Festival at Maple Lane Farms, 1126 Maple Lane in Greenback, after the applicant affirmed the application and county attorneys said the application met issuance criteria.
The permit was approved by a motion from Commissioner Carver, seconded by Commissioner Don Reagan, and the clerk recorded five yes votes. County Attorney Garrett told the board, “Based on the application permitted, the evidence presented, I would submit to the board that this applicant meets the criteria for the issuance of the temporary 30 day beer permit.”
At the meeting, resident and Maple Lane Farms co-owner Daryl Tyler urged the board to consider the impact of a music festival and alcohol sales near his property. Tyler said he and his wife own 124.5 acres called Maple Lane Farms and described the farmfamily and grandchildren who live nearby. He said the festival performance area is two inches from a fence he maintains near the property line and said, “I have nothing wrong with music, but when you put beer in the mix of people, they get a little excited.”
Michael C. Reynolds, identified at the podium as a representative of the applicant (Greenewalt Hospitality LLC), was sworn and affirmed that the application information was true to the best of his knowledge. The applicantprovided an affidavit from the sheriff's office showing the closest school and closest church are each outside 1,000 feet of the proposed permit area; the board record indicated that affidavit accompanied the application.
The board approved the permit with no recorded no or abstain votes. The clerk said the successful applicant may pick up the permit the following Monday sometime after 10:00 a.m. The board had no further business and adjourned.
