County opens bids for chip seal and asphalt overlay projects; staff to analyze recommendations

For the larger asphalt‑overlay package, Bayer Construction submitted alternate bids of $1,325,705 (alternate 1) and $1,474,140 (alternate 2), and Schilling Construction proposed $1,288,985 (alternate 1) and $1,444,430 (alternate 2); proposed start dates and working days varied by bidder.
After opening the envelopes, the board unanimously moved to send both bid packages to Public Works and procurement staff for analysis and a recommendation to the commission. No contract awards were made at the meeting.
Officials said the chip‑seal start dates were generally targeted for Aug. 1, 2025, while some asphalt overlay work included June start dates; staff will confirm schedules when preparing recommendations. The board is expected to consider award recommendations after staff’s review.
