UN schedules briefings on Security Council expansion, UNESCO register; deputy secretary-general highlights Vietnam cooperation

The UN spokesperson, Spokesperson of the United Nations Secretariat, outlined several programming items and upcoming briefings.
He said the permanent representative of Kuwait, Ambassador Albanai, chair of the intergovernmental negotiations on equitable representation in the Security Council, will brief on negotiations related to Security Council membership and related matters. Guillermo Canela de Sousa Godoy, director of UNESCO’s Memory of the World programme, will brief from Paris about the programme’s recent additions after UNESCO added 74 documentary heritage collections to the register.
The spokesperson also said David Carden, the outgoing deputy regional humanitarian coordinator for the Syrian crisis, will brief virtually from Gaziantep, Turkey, on the situation in Syria. Separately, the deputy secretary-general, Amina Mohammed, took part in the Partnership for Growth summit in Vietnam, joined a business dialogue on public-private partnership for innovation and sustainability, met Vietnam’s president and prime minister aides to discuss UN–Vietnam cooperation on the sustainable development goals, peacekeeping and climate action, and visited an electric-vehicle factory in Haiphong.
The spokesperson said the deputy secretary-general will chair the annual retreat of UN resident coordinators in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss accelerating SDG implementation and investments supporting key transitions; she is due back on Sunday.
