According to the spokesperson, Tette stressed that political will for compromise is essential to develop a consensual roadmap resolving Libya’s political crisis and to complete the transition. Tette emphasized that elections must be integrated into a comprehensive political framework that promotes state-building by unifying and strengthening institutions. The spokesperson said Tette noted that the 2020 ceasefire agreement is “largely holding,” but that the security situation remains volatile and that divided institutions have created a vacuum in which armed actors can perpetrate human rights violations with impunity.
The spokesperson said Tette’s remarks and consultations included a broad set of Libyan stakeholders — political leaders, military and security figures, judicial oversight institutions, political parties and civil society actors including women’s groups — and that consultations and consensus-building remain central to resolving the crisis.
