Aurora staff presented a fourth amendment to an existing intergovernmental agreement to complete drainage and flood-control improvements along Cherry Creek at Arapahoe Road and asked the committee to forward the amendment to the full city council.
"This is the fourth amendment to drainage improvements at Cherry Creek and Arapahoe Road," said Sam Scorsa, a staff presenter. Scorsa said the creek corridor crosses multiple jurisdictions and that recent sediment movement and erosion prompted coordinated restoration work.
Scorsa said earlier phases of the project left this downstream reach as the final "puzzle piece" in a larger restoration program. He told the committee that partner agencies — including the Cherry Creek Water Quality Authority and other local entities — increased their funding commitments in the fourth amendment so the funding burden is now shared more equitably. Under the amendment, Aurora is not required to provide additional funds; because it is an intergovernmental agreement, staff will forward the amendment to council for formal approval of the partners’ funding commitments.
Council members asked how Aurora had come to pay a larger share earlier; staff said Aurora had placed the project in its five-year capital improvement plan earlier than the other partners, and that others are now catching up.
With no objections, the committee advanced the fourth amendment to the regular council meeting for action.
