Tempe Elementary highlights student programs, staff recognitions and insurance increase

At the Tempe Elementary School District governing board meeting on April 2, district leaders highlighted recent school projects and awards, listed upcoming staff appreciation dates, and reported a change to the district insurance contribution.
Superintendent Dr. Driscoll used the meeting’s "celebrate excellence" portion to report campus projects and recognitions. Driscoll said Frank Elementary had partnered with volunteers and West Coast Arborist to plant 22 trees on campus and noted that Fuller Elementary received the Exceptional Educators award at the 36th annual mayor’s all-abilities awards (as announced in the meeting). Driscoll listed several upcoming recognition dates for district employees, including Administrative Professionals Day and School Bus Drivers Day (April 23); Interpreter Appreciation Day (May 1); School Lunch Hero Day (May 2); Teacher Appreciation Week in May and School Nurses Day on May 7; and Speech-Language Pathologist Day on May 18.
During the standing-committee reports, Mr. Lemon reported a board- and district-level decision to increase the district contribution to employee insurance to $9,650 and stated there would be “no change to employee or dependent contributions.” The committee presentation encouraged employees to consider health-savings and flexible-spending accounts and listed district wellness offerings such as extended yoga classes and free mammograms at the Brogan Center (as presented during the meeting).
Board members used the information items to acknowledge staff and community contributions: comments praised custodial and food-service staff for their work at early sessions, thanked donors who contributed tax-credit dollars, and congratulated the Tempe Elementary honor band and orchestra. Several board members described the district’s 150th-anniversary celebration as successful and thanked staff for organizing the event.
No formal motions or votes were required for the informational items presented during the celebration and committee reports.
The board announced upcoming dates: spring holiday (April 18, 2025); an agenda committee meeting on April 30, 2025; the next regular board meeting on May 7, 2025 at 7 p.m.; the Tempe Diablos Excellence in Education Awards ceremony on May 8, 2025; and a district retirement reception on May 14, 2025 at McKinney Academy of International Studies.
