Committee amends, advances bill to transfer Lauderdale County probate and juvenile court duties

Sponsor Chairman Hurd told the committee the bill would, subject to local approval, provide for the transfer of Lauderdale County’s probate and juvenile court from the county courthouse to the Justice Complex; transfer chancery-related clerk duties to the chancery court clerk; and transfer juvenile matters and juvenile-related clerk duties to the general sessions court clerk. Hurd also said the county commission could transfer clerk-related duties at any time after approval and certification of the act.
Committee members adopted amendment 7419 and then called the previous question. The clerk announced the final vote as 16 ayes and 0 nays; the bill was advanced to calendar and rules.
