Council approves Sawtooth Drive bike lane markings contract for up to $9,599

The Middleton City Council voted to authorize the mayor to enter into a contract with Curtis Clean Sweep to extend bike lane pavement markings on Sawtooth Drive from South Cemetery Road to the Sawtooth and Middleton Road roundabout for an amount not to exceed $9,599.

Jason Van Gilder, public works director, said the council had included funding in this year’s budget to extend bike lanes in the area. He described existing “shadow markings” showing where bike lanes transition and said residents have requested a more continuous marking to make it easier to ride in the neighborhood.

Van Gilder told the council the amount was in the budget last year at $9,000 and that staff confirmed the work can be covered within the transportation fund. The motion to authorize the contract was moved and seconded and carried on a voice vote.

The contract covers pavement markings only; the council did not approve related roadway widening, parking changes or other engineering work at this meeting. Staff said additional details about scheduling and exact marking specifications would be provided to council and published once the contract is finalized.
