Pinal County Attorney outlines special victims unit and prosecutions while accepting victims' rights proclamation

Brad Miller, Pinal County Attorney, spoke to the Queen Creek Town Council in conjunction with the council’s proclamation for Crime Victims’ Rights Week, describing recent changes he said his office has implemented and urging respect and services for victims.

"In the first three months of my office, I have created a special victims unit dedicated to that very purpose," Miller said, adding that his office has run three trafficking stings in that period. He told the council that one sting in Apache Junction led to arrest of three individuals and reiterated that his office is prioritizing prosecutions of crimes against children.

Miller framed the proclamation around the legal and moral obligations to victims, referencing what he described as the Victims' Bill of Rights and noting its historical roots. He said his office aims to provide victims "dignity and respect, the dignity and respect that they deserve."

The council presented the proclamation and invited Miller for remarks and a photo. Miller also noted his background prosecuting crimes against children and his service in the United States Marine Corps; he said the incidents prosecutors pursue can include people from many sectors of the community, including faith organizations, youth sports and the military.
