Staff reports: new public‑art installations, map in progress and board/commission openings announced

Staff reported that the city has received positive public feedback on recent public‑art installations and that two additional works were installed this week. One installation required additional maintenance; the other required an electrical connection and will be sited outside the indoor sports center entrance at the Community Center Complex until permanent wiring is completed.

Staff said the public‑art web page currently lists 13 locations and the city is finalizing an interactive map of the installations; the map will be posted once the final two installations are confirmed in their permanent locations.

During the reports and announcements portion of the meeting a commissioner read a list of current board and commission openings and application details. Commissions with openings and the number of vacancies announced at the meeting include: Arts Commission (2 openings), Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (2), Board of Library Trustees (1), Heritage Preservation Commission (1), Housing and Human Services Commission (2), Human Relations Commission (3), Parks and Recreation Commission (1), Personnel Board (1), Planning Commission (1) and Sustainability Commission (2). Applications are due by 4 p.m. Thursday, April 24 to be considered for interviews with City Council on May 12 and 13.

Staff said general eligibility requires Sunnyvale residency and that applications are available at sunnyvale.ca.gov (search “boards and commissions”) or by calling the City Clerk’s office. Staff added that applications received after the deadline will be considered for future openings.
