Resident warns Riverwalk project could harm farmland, groundwater and wildlife

A resident addressing the Planning Commission on April 15 urged commissioners to closely evaluate environmental and infrastructure risks posed by the proposed Riverwalk project.
Karen Conrado, who said she lives on Hoag Road, told commissioners the proposal could affect "productive ag land," deplete water and aquifers, disturb Stanislaus River wildlife habitat and wildlife corridors, and that the site is a designated floodplain. She listed concerns about wastewater, sewage transfers, traffic, and noise and light pollution, and said that "many citizens and agencies have written clear, factual, and detailed information" that the commission should review.
Conrado asked the commission to "take the time to read and analyze the facts presented," noting a "tremendous amount of documentation" exists on the proposed project. Her remarks were delivered during the public comment period; commissioners did not take action on the Riverwalk project at the April 15 meeting.
